This might surprise you about entrepreneurs.

Most people think an entrepreneur has the ideal life. Dream up your own business. Check. Create and fine-tune the operations. Check. Design the brand and marketing. Check. Locate and hire your ideal team. Check.

All that is the ideal business situation for someone ambitious and driven. However, there is a common misconception that someone thinking of running their own business might want to consider. Every entrepreneur may think they answer to no one, but they do. In fact, more so than many employees.

An employee answers to their boss. An entrepreneur answers to many bosses ranging from stockholders to customers, clients, and everyone in between. They are accountable for every contract they agree to. If something goes sideways in the company or with an employee, guess who has ultimate responsibility? The business owner.

Even if you’re an entrepreneur who single-handedly runs your business with no team, you still answer to your customers and clients. In essence, they are your boss.

3 Benefits to Others Centered Entrepreneurship

1. Realizing that you and your business exist to serve your clients and customers will focus your efforts in the right direction. A company that intentionally and consistently seeks to improve the lives of its clients will do well.

2. The over-controlling entrepreneur struggles. Usually, their team isn’t on board or engaged as they could be. Delegating with clear objectives and some flexibility in its “how” will give your team ownership. In return, they will be excited and motivated to realize your goal.

3. Realizing that your client is the ultimate decision-maker reduces your frustration. If you are always focused on being “the boss,” your client will feel run over and like their view doesn’t matter. How they view you, your services, and your company matters greatly. When you operate with that perspective, you’ll always improve what you provide and how you deliver it to your highly valued clients.
